Steve Tada on violin and Nancy Nash on piano played to an enthusiastic full house at the Northern Light United Church in Juneau on February 23rd as a benefit for the Empty Chair Memorial. The concert was a joy for all involved, but especially for the guests of honor, Mary Tanaka Abo and Alice Tanaka Hikido.
I don’t think words of appreciation to the two musical artists and their crew can be more eloquently expressed then these from Mary to Steve and Nancy: “Your arrangement of the Japanese song (Haru no Umi) was masterful. I couldn’t help but jump up in appreciation. The music just cut through the heart as sweet and sorrowful. Thank you again for a wonderful, soaring night that brought us all together.”
During intermission, the Gastineau Channel Historical Society presented a very large facimile check for $5,000 to the Empty Chair Project Memorial.
A special touch at the end of the concert after the lovely Brahms Sonata No. 1 in G-Major was the presentaton of roses from the artists to the Empty Chair Committee members and floral bouquets to Mary and Alice .
At last count, the concert raised another $2,200.00 dollars for the Empty Chair Memorial. As Alice Hikido put it, “My heart is full.”
